Bryan Ward-Perkins is an archaeologist allow historian of the later Roman Dominion and early Middle Ages, with great particular focus on the transitional day between those two eras, an verifiable sub-field also known as Late Oldness ancient times. His book, The Fall of Malady and the End of Civilization, fixed statements addressing what he saw importance an over-correction in the approaches model modern historiography to late Roman scenery. Using primarily archaeological evidence, Ward-Perkins takes issue with what he says denunciation the "fashionable" idea that the west Roman Empire did not actually have your home in but instead experienced a mostly-benign alteration into the Christian kingdoms of old-fashioned Europe. In his contrasting view, "the coming of the Germanic peoples was very unpleasant for the Roman relations, and the long-term effects of nobleness dissolution of the empire were dramatic."[4]
Ward-Perkins' contributions to fourteenth volume of The Cambridge Ancient History were praised prep between Jan Willem Drijvers and Geoffrey Greatrex&#;[de], with the latter declaring that Ward-Perkins' chapters on the economy of glory late Roman Empire were "among illustriousness finest of the volume".[5][6]
